if you browse or explore the disc, can you right-click the files and un-select the "read only" box in the properties menu?

If it's a file you would open with a dedicated program, just use "Save as" as a work around.

Say there is a copy/write protected Word document or an Excel table, open it with the appr. application and use "Files/Save As" to create an unprotected copy on your harddrive.
Others than that any copy program (Robocopy) or even any explorer (Windows Explorer, Q-Dir) should copy the file of the DVD

Can't imagine a problem like this.:) If the simple methods enumerated above fail, I would run IsoBuster free version and try my luck to extract it to the HDD. CD Recovery | CD DVD Data Rescue software, featuring BD HD DVD

the only reason that it would be a problem would be if you are trying to move the files rather than actually copy them, or are you saying once you have them copied to the hd they are showing as read only?
