    Hard Drive Configuration

Hi Guys, first time posting here, seemed like a good place to start.

Ive currently got 2x1TB in RAID0 on my EX-58-Extreme Motherboard using the ICH10R controller, im awaiting my new HD so i can set everything back to non raid and use normal Sata, my question is, what is better to control my Sata drives? the ICH10R or GSata my board has? what are the major differences, specs etc that make them distinctively different?

    Thanks in advance :)

Edit: Also was viewing other threads about HD speed, i did a quick bench of read, these are my results: http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/8755/54738476.png

Is it good, bad? my older seagate barracuda seemed to be alot more snappier (just sata not raid)...

    Thanks again :)

If Im not mistaken, The GSATA ports use a Jmicron Controller and are intended for 2 drives to be set up in RAID.

The SATA ports uses the Intel ICH10R.

Im not 100% positive on this, but was my understanding. Its been awhile, but Ill look into it some more.
Hopefully others can correct me if not entirely accurate.

If it was me, I would just use the Intel SATA ports.

    -------------
As far as the best HD configuration, this would be my suggestion for the best performance:

    Pick up a SSD--
The Intel 40GB starts at $100, and its 80Gb version around $200.
OCZ Vertex2 offers a 60GB at the $140 prioce range, and a 90GB at the $175 price range.

Dont let the Intel specs fool you on the value drive. They are very fast.
Any of these 4 however would be a very good OS drive, depending how much space you need.

Use it for the OS and all your applications.

USe your 1TB spinners fro all your other DATA. (Music, Pictures, Videos Etc)

If space on the SSD is a issue you can even use the second 1TB as a drive for games.
or, even a BackUp Drive (or half of it partitioned off for back up)

This will speed everything up a great deal. Even with DATA on the spinning the drives, they will seem faster as they are usually not busy when called upon and can react much faster.

As far as your benchmark scores, seems about right from what I see.

Cheers for that wish, i dont have the cash on me for SSDs so im just guna go with my HD, so ICH10R is better then the GSata?
