I used this Zalman unit till I went with the H50.
    Zalman CNPS9900LED CPU Cooler - Socket 1366, 775, 754, AM3, AM2, AM2+, 940, 939 at TigerDirect
The Zalman doesn't require a back plate but they provide on if you want. The fins are seriously sharp and installing this sucker is a trick but it cooled well !

Then there's this bad boy, I don't read were it requires a back plate. I've falling in love with Noctura fans!

Which way would i be best sitting those fans, near my back exhaust or near my intakes on the side panel or what?

Exhaust up towards a top fan would be best, sometimes the mounting plate forces you to only direct flow towards the rear case fan which also works dandy. I prefer to top exhaust as heat rises and it creates the best case flow. The rear fan direction does draw cool air over the ram a little. It's really 6 or half a dozen the other !
