    Can't Read SD/HDC

    Windows 64 bit Pro
    Sony Vaio VGN-AW190

    Problem:

SD cards not being read. Tried an 8GB Class 6 Transcends (works fine on wife's HP, also W7 64 bit home) and tried Transcends 16GB Class 10 (brand new). When I insert the card, it tells me it must be formatted. I tried quick and non-quick format, FAT and NTFS - all tell me "windows cannot format the card at this time".

I don't understand why. What could it be? I also tried again after installing latest drivers from Sony's site for this model, same problem.

The SD card could be faulty itself. Does the card in question work on any computer at all. If no, it is bad. If it does, then we know it's that PC it self. That could mean that the card reader is not being able to recognize it or that slot is bad or a corruption of some sort in the software area's or registry.

    1) Backup the data on the card in the computer where it is readable.

    2) Then download and install the HP format disk utility and format the card.

    See attached.

Works on other computers (both 8GB and 16GB cards I've tried, just like I clearly said before)

Sorry, wasn't sure of that's what you meant. Good, now looking at your pictures, the one that shows what type of file system (FAT 32), change it to NTFS, then try to format it.
