    Ridiculously slow copy and read speeds on my Asus Dvd drive..Help!


    Hey guys,

    It seems this problem has been annoying me for quite some time now but I have never really bothered to fix it simply because I really don't use the drive to install my games and stuff.

    But NOW the time has come for me to install a game from a disc (GTAIV) it's taking FOREVER! I mean it barely moves.

    I have the ASUS DRW-2014L1T and I have updated to the latest firmware 1.02 already.

    the drive is in sata mode.

    The rest of my pc specs are:

    Intel Core i7 920
    4gb ddr3 ram
    Asus P6T
    WD 500gb Hd

    I don't know what the problem but it is incredibly annoying when it takes like 2 hrs to install a game on my PC from a disc...

    Nothing you can do about it unless ASUS decides to provide a windows 7 firmware update.

    Some hardware just won't run very well in windows 7 without a driver written specifically for it. I have seen machines that had no problems running vista but would not work in windows 7, mainly because of proprietary drivers the manufacturer decided to stop updating. I've also gotten windows 7 to run flawlessly in an 8 year old Dell that had no driver updates since 2005. It's possible the only solution may be to get a new optical drive.
