W7 and RAM
Is W7 64bit picky about having different brands of 1gig memory? Are people find a conflict with different types? I had XP which didn't see all four gigs I have installed. Now I have W7 64 and there are hesitation and freeze-up problems. I haven't looked at what kind of memory I have installed.

No more than other OSes. Your problems are more likely to be caused by incompatibility issues between the memory modules, particularly if they don't fully match. It is important to ensure that all parameters match (the timings) and not just the rated speed.

OK, that's what I thought. I guess it's time to pull them all out and see what I have, if they match. I bought them one at a time on sale then heard there could be a problem.

I've worked in organizations that use Dell desktops...and we have upgraded RAM on many of them over the years and we often just go with Crucial, or Kingston or whatever else we can get for a good price....and mixing and matching RAM in hundreds of desktop computers for our organization hasn't caused any significant problems that I am aware of.

I pulled out the four RAM sticks in the order they were in the computer and looked to see if any were the same. One in the first group of two and one in the second were the same so I put them back in in the first two slots and it seems to have helped. The machine is a little slower but doesn't have all the problems it had before. I think I will order another matched set.

Could i suggest getting all new ram and getting it at a higher speed if your system can use it that way you can just max out your units potential
The ram i use is Patriot G-series Viper ram I have been going with Patriot for the last 4 years and it has been good to me
