    Ram Usage

Just noticed something very different from Vista. I was using google earth. In Vista I could use it for 30 or 40 minutes. Doing closeups of different places. Then it would die and I would have 80% or more ram usage. I could close the app and the ram usage would drop to near normal. I could then restart GE and use until it happened again.

In Seven I have just been cruising GE for about an hour. Grand Canyon, Amazon, lots of closeups, and ram usage never went over 43% and actually dropped to 41% just before I closed the program.

Seems Seven is doing something different with the RAM, or maybe it's a pigment of my illusion. Whatever it is I think I like it. :)

    nice and interesting observation gary....

it might be that w7 might be managing memory more efficiently unlike vista's memory management....

    just a thought...

My only thought is that Seven is making better use of the page file. Will try to delve further when I get a moment.

In Vista I was able to do that as the programs you are not actually using, even though they were open could be swapped to the pagefile. It seems as though Vista would not swap out memory that was from the program in use. Seven seems to be doing that. Wasn't going to install all my programs until the public beta, but going to have to try some Video editing now. See how it handles that.

    actually i am...

i am running two hd videos..... (well you are right in the background)

but the point is that i wouldnt be able to do this in vista....

i am guessing that its monitoring which programs i am using the most a
nd the rest go to the pagefile (well of course there are execptions......)

one in WMC another in wmp and its still strong.....

(one is hd wmv other vc-1 avi...)

    about video...

i have a p4 and wow in those days (use to use adobe premiere 6.5 never liked the interface of Premiere CS but it grew on me...)

you know i might do that too

    i have CS3....
