Need some help on my cd/dvd drive

    alright hey guys,

At school, my teacher needed some help with his computer. He showed me his desktop and said that the dvd drive wont eject. Strangely, i went on my computer and the dvd/cd drive was not there. Only his hard disk and some folders on my computer. I pressed the eject button on his dvd cd drive and it wouldnt eject. I told him i would come up with a solution later so now i need your help. What is causing this problem? Its strange how it wouldnt eject and its not in my computer. I tried manuel eject with a paper clip and that still didnt work !! He told me that first when he got the computer, it worked perfectly and out of no where, this problem has occured. He told me its been going for years but its starting to annoy him. I would like to be the "hero" in this case and fix it but i can't figure out what the hell is going on. I checked online and the computer specs are:

is the light comming on when he hits the eject button?
if so did you try opening it with a pin or something ?
there's a little hole buy the eject button push the pin in the hole and it should open.
if there are no lights then check inside the case and make sure the plug didn't come off..

    hope that helps

first i would make sure the drive is listed in the BIOS. if so, try this next: Hardware devices are not working or are not detected in Windows (i'm not sure if it works with xp)
if that doesnt work, try updating the chipset drivers from intel.
