What are you trying to do ? Connect your Desktop to the WiFi net your Modem is on?
In that case you need some kind of Wifi Network adapter
Either as a card that fits in your computer's PCI slot

or a simple solution to plug into an USB Port like this

Important is, that you make sure your solution handles the wireless Data rate of the modem (IEEE 802.11 b/g/n or whatever your modem uses).

The difference between those standards is the max possible data rate
    (802.11 b up to 54Mbps,
    802.11 g ~150Mbps
    802.11 n up to 300 Mbps)
How much you'll actually get at your place depends on distance, how many walls in between, what material they're made of and of course how many WiFi networks are there on the same channel. Best ask a friend with a laptop to check it out

The price largely depends on where you actually intend to buy and which brand, which features etc. Best you check what your wiFi Router/modem supports and go from there. It's never wong to go with the same brand for the adapter (because some WiFi Routers might have features that only their own products support)
You could kick google in gear and look for "wireless adapters" or check with your local Best Buy, Target, Radio Shack etc.
If you go mail order I would look here Newegg.com - Wireless Adapters
    or here
Wireless Adapter, Wireless Network Adapter, Wireless USB Adapter at TigerDirect.com

make sure to read the customer feedbacks on anything that tickles your fancy. As always there are a few brands that are just not worth it.
Personally I'm not a huge fan of ebay but once you have a model number you could look there for bargains, too
