    Mouse Lag

Just got a new computer at work and it's got Windows 7. Im having to teach myself how to use it, as I am the first to get it. I have noticed a considerable lag with my mouse whenever I am trying to drag something, but only when im dragging. Whether its dragging a file into the Recycle Bin or dropping a pdf file into Acrobat, the mouse will only travel an inch or two and hold. Its not the kind of lag you find on video games (where the object will continue to travel in a direction until the lag goes away)...its more like the icon just stops even though I am still dragging, and when the lag ends, the icon just picks up where it left off. It doesnt jump from place to place. I dont know if i've explained this well, but if anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate them.
    -Thx!

I was thinking the same. Also can you test with another mouse?

If the other mouse doesn't work properly, you can try accessing the computer in safe mode and see if in safe mode the mouse works fine: Safe Mode

If the mouse works fine in safe mode then you have a problem with the drivers for the mouse. We can assess that as well after we narrow it down.

Ok...I plugged in the HP mouse that came with it and it seems to do better, but the lag shows up every now and again. Even with the Dell mouse, its not constant. Maybe happens 1 out of 5 times I drag something. With the HP it was more like 1 out of 10. Im reading up on the "safe mode" option. This is my work computer, will this have any effect on programs or permissions?

You say this is a new computer and I'm thinking it could be loaded with bloatware which should be removed. Also I wonder what your start menu looks like? You could have tons of apps waiting in the background taking up resources.

I dont know what bloatware is and start menu only has a few things on it. I checked my processes to make sure there wasnt anything running in the background and im fine there. Im in safe mode now and its hard to tell if this has worked because the interface is different and im not able to perform the same tasks here. Also, my Acrobat keeps getting a runtime error and closing. Im at a bit of a loss here. Like i said earlier, its not constant. Its only when i have something highlited and try to drag it somewhere else.

does this "lag" happen with no programs open? Also can you post your pc specs? You may have a new machine but if it is under spec'd for win7 you will have issues.

I would contact HP regarding your new server and discuss these issues as you are well inside any warranty period. Bloatware FYI is all the free software that the major manufacturers place on their systems over and above the OS and drivers.

Yes (sometimes). All programs closed. Just moving icons around on my desktop and it happens.

I attached a capture of the specs.
