Hard Drive not detected

So a few months ago my PC broke and Windows refused to load onto it at all. However, linux did, so i got by using that. however, I bought a custom built gaming PC, which arrived yesterday. I transferred the HDD from my old PC (with all my data on, and a few broken windows versions, but no linux (linux was on a differant disk)) into my new one. However, windows doesn't detect it. BIOS sees it, and lets me boot from it (i know because it stops loading during just before the windows splash screen). However, in Windows 7, it isn't found. it detects my external HDD, but not the internal one i added. Any ideas whats wrong with it? that HDD has all my work on it, i really can't afford to format it.

how much stuff have you got on the drive that you want/need to save?

maybe you could put it back into the linux machine and transfer everything over the network, or via a thumb drive or dvd or something?

Well it's a 500gb drive, and full, but only around 20 or so i need (Although would prefer to keep it all). Also, wasn't sure how to transfer over a network. I did try that, but couldn't get anything working.

rather than try to network the two machines, which could open up a can of worms if they aren't already so, and rather than try to work out what's wrong with the drive, i think it's going to be easier and less hassle overall just to transfer the 20 gigs using a thumb drive or a few dvd's, or even better an external hdd if you have access to one.

that's what i would do, then i would completely wipe all partitions and everything off the drive, then re-partition and format.

but don't try it yet - somebody may be along later with a better idea...

Well i do have an external HDD, but for some reason it only actually works with windows, due to security locking systems etc . I may just try to reformat a HDD that was left inside my old pc, install windows, then use that to get the data over. Gonna take ages though -.-

No, it's not in device management. There is a 'Disk 0' in the disk partitioning thing that seems to be 300 GB (split into around 298GB and 5GB partitions) but that isn't the correct size and i can't access it anyway. As far as windows is concerned, i only have 1 internal HDD and 1 External HDD.

And yes, dual booting could work (I actually have 4 HDDs xD. 1 1TB Internal (came with new PC), 1 TB external (for backing up and storing programs on now), 1 500GB internal (from old PC) and a 350 GB one from the PC i had before my old one. That last one has linux on).
