Windows 7: Memory speed

I have 4 Gb of corsair 1600MHz C9 DDR3 memory installed on an Asus Crosshair III Formula 790FX motherboard. The motherboard specs said that it supported 1600 MHz memory, yet the memory is only running at 1333 MHz.

Do I need to OC the M/board in someway to get the full speed out of the memory modules ?

The motherboard can support a certain maximum speed but if your CPU can't run at that speed it will run at a lower speed.

My CPU is a Phenom 11 X 6 1090t 3.2 GHz, and again it is supported by the M/board, and I am assuming that because it is so new that it would support that memory speed.

Read the manual. If you don't have a copy go to Asus support and download.
It will tell you how to set the bios RAM speeds.

No need to OC. Since it is an Asus board the bios will probably list a default, Auto, and manual setting. A sub menu of manual will list the optional MHz susch as 10xx,13xx, 16xx etc.

The manual will show you pics of what to look for.

Use link below. Top of that page left use Auto detect moboard or drop curtains on top right. Then select OS then it will give you a list of drivers and a list of Manuals.

Thanks for the info. You were spot on. In BIOS the mem speed was set to auto, but for some reason was showing it as 1333 when the memory is actually 1600. I changed it manually to 1600.
