Could it be you are disconnecting everything rather than just the specific device you want to disconnect. I have several USB devices attached inlcluding one that is "permanently" connected. When I want to eject a device I LEFT click on the Safely Remove Icon and select ONLY the device I want to disconnect.

hi fireberd thats how i eject my devices same as you but for some reason it turns the internet off.its not a major problem because i can troubleshoot it and windows 7 resets my adaptor its just annoying when im in the middle of something an it goes off.
    thanks for the reply though

Do you have to do the troubleshooting or will it start working again by itself ?? It sounds like more than one, maybe all, USB ports are being momentarily disabled or reset when you eject the external drive. Have you tried using different ports for your devices ??

Nothing else is affected, just your wireless, right ?? In other words, if you have both your external hard drive connected and eject a thumbdrive, for example, your external hard drive doesn't give you any problems ??
