madcatz panther dx joystick not working in win7-64

I can't get my old madcatz panther dx joystick to work in win7 64-bit
it comes up as a " unknown usb device" in device manager
I can't see why this joystick would not work in win7-64-bit
It's works fine in winxp-64-bit and Ubuntu 64-bit,
it's even plug and play on my win98 pc

but that does not surprise me seeing as how old it is

it's a HID compatible usb joystick
I have tried the madcatz drivers
    but they will not install
I tells me that they can not be install because they are 32-bit drivers and I'm using a 64 version of windows

the joystick does work in my older win98 and winxp systems
    so the joystick is working

any one know of any thing I can do to help it work ?

Hi, first, try to connect it to a usb 2.0 port, the ones on the back of the mobo, and try to update the drivers through windows update, on the device manager, if nothing works, probably the gamepad is not compatible with windows 7 at all, but there's always a solution
