    Phantom Floppy Drive

So I just updated to 7229 and I noticed that there's a floppy drive showing up now, which is odd since I don't have one installed.

I found a few others with this incident, however the only responses I saw were all suggestions that it might be the BIOS. Well I knew that wasn't the issue for me, and double checked it just to be sure. Any ideas what else could be causing this? I was using 7100 before and this never happened.

I know that I could just disable it under device manager, but I'm hoping there is a more direct solution.

I actually have had the phantom floppy since vista, and on 7137 got a phantom CD drive, though I suspect it really is a BIOS settings issue. I'd just wait until RTM to see if it persists, since it's not that big of a deal to disable.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, how sure are you that you've checked all the BIOS settings? Usually the Basic CMOS Settings will have the floppy and hard drives. You might have to manually set it to Disabled if it somehow thinks you have one.

And on the Advanced or maybe Chipset page there's usually another one or two about Enabling Floppy drives and Boot-Up Floppy Seek.

Also, if there's a cable in the FDD channel on the MB, that could confuse it.

If it really isn't a BIOS issue, the only thing I could imagine is that there is another feature on your motherboard that Windows is confusing with a Floppy drive. In that case, you should make sure you have the latest drivers for your motherboard's chipset and controllers.

My bios has a "report floppy to OS" function. Use that if you have it, then remove the floppy drive from device manager manually.

I did that once on the 7000 build. I still get the fake floppy showing up, but I don't care enough to keep removing it from the device manager after every reinstall of win7.

I just got my computer back from having the HD wiped and reloaded and I also have this "phantom floppy" showing up. Will this cause any problems if I just ignore it? Thanks.
