Windows 7: Mouse/Keyboard Freeze

Hi everyone,

I hope you can help with this problem. My computer is less than a month old and the mouse and keyboard freeze approximately 10-15 minutes after start, regardless of what program I'm running. I have to do a hard reboot, but then the computer is fine for hours afterwards.



System specs are:
Intel i7 980x
Intel DX58SO ATX mobo
16GB RAM
Zotac NVIDIA GTX 480 graphics card
Western Digital 1TB SATA RAID
Metatron 700W power supply

Any ideas on what the problem might be? Thanks in advance for your help.

You gave us all the specs but the mouse and keyboard. Brand and model number.

Oops! Mouse is a Logitech Optical RX 250, keyboard is a Cherry G85-23100EU Stream.

Go to this page and get the latest driver for the mouse. Enter the OS if it does not auto detect.
RX250 Mouse

Try that first and see if problem continues.

More than likely the keyboard uses generic Windows driver but I will check while you take care of the mouse.

This probably has a driver. Cherry U.S. website does not list it since it is an EU keyboard.

Cherry EU I can't find access to the web site just the Cherry U.S.

If the Cherry EU web site is similar to ours just "Google" CherryCorp/Cherry Corp to find web site.
Select "product" then keyboards then software downloads.
You should then find your model.
If more than one driver listed get the newest.
If problem continues after updating drivers post back here.

Thanks for your help, Mike. I just downloaded the mouse driver and restarted the computer. We'll see if that fixes the problem, otherwise I'll look for the updated keyboard driver as well.

Sounds good. I tried to find Cherry International even. No luck.

Searching from your end will probably take you straight to the EU web site.

Well, the mouse froze again, despite the updated driver. I haven't tried updating the keyboard driver yet, but since the computer is only a month old, it seems unlikely that this is the problem, but I'll try.

Few questions..

1) Is there a chance that you might be connecting the mouse/keyboard on a USB hub? or front panel USB? i know this is a silly question but that could give you some trouble

2) Have you tried to change them to a different USB ports?

3) Do you have another mouse/keyboard to try in the PC to double check if that's the problem?

The USB hub question is not a silly one, I've wondered about that too as I came across it in another forum while looking for an answer. Here's the really dumb question, how do I know whether it's connected to a regular port or a hub? I can't seem to find a "road map" for my tower, and since it was a custom build anyway, I don't know if this would help me.

I have tried moving the mouse to a different USB port, no change.

I'll try switching out the mouse/keyboard and see if that makes a difference.
