Cleaning Mice??

Hi guys, I splilt coffee all over the place this morning, not directly on the mouse but it was swimming none the less

. Problem is a few hours later the L/R buttons now are sticking constantly..no surprise but

I have read its possible to submerse the mouse in distilled water and allowing it a week or so to dry out it may be salvageable. It's a X5 or X6 w/e mouse by MS and less than a fortnight old so

I'd like to save it if possible. It's not possible to dismantle it as far as I'm aware so has anyone tried doing this before and if so what was the end result?

Couple of possible solutions on the net:

you should wash it with clean water, so you could washout the coffee.

2. then dry it up with clean towel.

3. and blow it dry. (use blower)

4. don't open it for 1-2days.

5. place it in to the uncooked rice (because it can absorb water) for 1-2days.

6. then u try it!

1) unplug the mouse
2) submerse the entire mouse in a higher-content alcohol. I believe rubbing alcohol works best
3) swish it around vigorously
4) let soak for 5-10 minutes
5) pull out of solution, shake gently, and let it sit in front of a fan for a 20-30 minutes
6) plug back in and test it

You may think the is a joke, but it most certainly isn't. This is a practice you can use to recovery many electronics that have been accidentally introduced to liquids. Submersing the device in an alcohol-based solution and shaking vigorously will let the alcohol penetrate deep into all areas of the device. This will replace the former substance with alcohol. Alcohol evaporates much more rapidly then most other substances.

The ultimate though would be to replace it - optical mice are pretty cheap these days :)

ty for your response..I have an old mouse here that I can use when I try the distilled water submerse thing lol..will post back once it either succeeds of w/e...
