    4GB (2.93 usable) -win7 64bits-

    Hi from Uruguay.
    Happy 2011!!!
I need some help about this.
I have 4 GB ddr3 on my viewsonic (viewbook vnb145) Core I3 laptop.
Windows Seven Ultimate 64bits says: 4GB (2.93 usable).

The 2 ddr3 (2GB each), work correctly regardless if I take one out, Windows 7 detects 2GB.
Dont know what else to do, I reinstalled Windows 7 64bit twice.
    I need help!!

The 1gb ram missing appears as Hardware reserverd.

I tell u that... when I install 2gb into the laptop... Windows 7 says 2GB (1,86 usable), that´s ok for video sharing...

    Hardware reserved: 140MB

    But when I install both ddr3, 2+2, (4gb)..Windows 7 says 4GB (2.93 usable).

    Hardware reserved: 1100MB.

    -------------

    Bios: Total Ram: 3,90GB

Bios only let me modify this:
    1) DVMT Pre-allocated: 32 - 64 - 128
    2) Total Graphics Memory: 128 - 256 - MAXDVMT

    Actually is set:1) 32 and 2) MAXDVMT
(I´ve changed each point and is the same...so this point no help)

(This new laptop (created: july 2010) has no remap option.)

    ----------------
I´d changed Msconfig/boot/advance.... but doesn´t work...Now is set Maximum Memory unchecked
    ------------------

    Thanks for your help.

You will not get all of your memory then. And nothing you do in Windows will solve it. By the time Windows starts the hardware has already spoken and took its slice.

Whomever made your computer would have access to any BIOS updates available for it, if any. If Viewsonic made it, as your system specs say, you should contact support there to see if 1) the laptop has any BIOS updates to minimize the amount of RAM that it allocates, or allows you more control over it), and 2) if the laptop is designed to support Windows 7 in any version other than Win7 Starter (worth knowing if you want support for it, as your specs say you're running Ultimate and the shipping specs say it ships with Starter).

When i started to read this i was figuring his pci devices and onboard took the ram to increase performance

    Hernan

Thank you for contacting ViewSonic Technical Support.

What your reporting is normal. Windows will normaly retain a certain percentage of the memory for hardware and vidio card usage. Windows won't display the total 4 gigs of memory. This is the way window works. It will only report the Memory which it is not using. All your going to see is what is not being used by windows os.

Should you require additional assistance or would like to speak to a Technical Support Engineer directly, please contact our Technical Support Dept. at 1-800-688-6688 and choose the Technical Support menu option. A Technical Support Engineer will gladly assist you.

    Thank you for choosing ViewSonic.

    Hernan:

The ram in hardware reserved is for video card and other hardware usage, will always be missing, similar w/hdd,s . they wont show the full size due to fat and other hd functions
