6-cell battery and the ext 9-call battery

I have bought my laptop, with 6-cell battery, and recently I have realized that it is just not enough/ 2.5-3.5 hours are good, but just not good iif you actually want to do something on your computer....
Anyway I heard about external 9-cell battery that can be plugged in to the computer, where can I buy? can you explain how it works please?

A 6 cell battery for a laptop is pretty standard and is usually self contained right within the laptop. You can replace that 6 cell battery, with a 9 cell battery. Since the 9 cell battery has more cells and lasts longer, the battery itself is natually larger. So, they often either stick out of the back or out of the bottom of the laptop. Oh yeah, they also weigh more because of the extra cells.

they do have the upside of raising the laptop higher thereby giving better airflow as well as the extra power

I dont want to replace the 9-cell with the 6-cell...I want to buy an external 9-cell battery. When my 6-cell has 0% energy, I will plug in the 9-cell and have another 5-9 hours of working...sounds good indeed, but I dont know if it really works this way.

I've never seen a laptop battery work that way. External (to me) has always meant that part of the battery will be external to the laptop due to it's extra size. I've replaced numerous 6 cell batteries with 9-12 cell batteries at work and at home (just moved my wife's HP from the standard 6 cell to a 12 cell), and it's always involved getting rid of the first battery. In the case of wife's laptop, her battery was only lasting about 30 minutes anyway on a full charge and at about 50% remaining, the laptop would simply shut down. So, I think she had a bad cell...so the 6 cell was junk anyway.
