    Mystery hardware lacking drivers

    Hello all.

When I check Device Manager on my Asus laptop there are two categories expanded with the exclamation point warning icon beside them. Both are the same, under the "Other devices" category. Both are called "Base System Device". The icon looks a bit like a tower PC case - are these referring to mobos?

In any case Win7 is reporting the following under Device Properties > Driver :

    Code:
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.
When I click on "Update Driver" I get the following message :

    Code:
Windows could not find driver software for your device.

If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit it's website and check the support section for driver software.
    And under "Driver Information" :

    Code:
No driver files are required or have been loaded for this device.
So anyone - what is this all about? What it missing exactly, how important is it, and how can I rectify this?

Is it saying that the mobo doesn't require drivers? If so why the error message?

    Thanks in advance.

Sorted it. Thanks guys. That first link from abedrax revealed that the device was a card reader. Two drivers were required which I got from the Asus website. They only had them for Vista but they seem to work ok - 7 has accepted them anyway and the error icons have gone.

Looks like a good website that, thanks for the link.
