What would be the better of the two ? performance wise

Hi everyone I'm stepping forward to upgrade my CPU i have a couple choices and i wanted some input also if you read my specs i want to know if i also need to purchase a psu as well to accomendate the upgrades i am going to get

#1 this is my first choice chip FRYS.com*|*AMD

    #2 my second choice FRYS.com*|*AMD

What are your plans for this computer? Do you plan on doing Graphics? Editing? Gaming?

Typically most applications and games even don't use six cores.

Unless your doing graphic editing using Photoshop or something like that i would use the 970 BE

For gaming purposes 4 cores are plenty most games won't use all the cores as it is
    .
Now if your looking to do a lot of multitasking with with grapical intense programs as mentioned above you would get more use out of the 6 cores.

At this point I like to suggest you do some research on your own since only you know exactly what your looking for out of the CPU. You've definetly have the Ram and Graphics card to do just about anything you want.

    Hope this will help

Agree with the review, It all just depends on what you plan on doing with this system.

Gaming you wont ever use six cores. But if you ever plan on doing a bit of editing i would recommend the 1090t

The bulldozer chips are coming soon....they will use the new AM3+ socket....older chips will work in the AM3+ but the bulldozer line will not work in older boards

But as of now I would go with the 970 $186 on new egg free ship.....also consider new eggs rosewill line of power supplies, for $130 a continuous 1000watt psu

All of your thoughts have been really good I only game I don't burn or edit movies anymore for I just send them HDMI to the tv and stream from there

I was wondering about the 6 core if it would make a real difference but in one of the reviews i was reading they rated the blk ed 970 faster then the 3.2--- 6 core

as the new mobo go that will be in a couple months probally be my b day present to myself lol i want the rampage III board usb 3.0 that probally be round march also looking to grab 12 gigs of ddr3 as well

anyway 1000 watt suplly sounds awesome right now im useing a mid atx case i would have to measure how big of supply i could use im sure i could possibly fit it

but if i need a case i can do that too !

by the end of this week im going to fry's to pick this up i have a familly member that works there i can get the discount

online ordering is very fast i must say but ill probally get 25% off the whole deal if i go through familly

also i wanted to know what did you all think of this heat dispensing paste FRYS.com*|*Cooler Master

I want to make sure i keep it on the cool side i am using air cooling nothing fancy here

also my psu 600 watt i would like to know is that enough or do i need to up the modular psu

Yes that would be correct, just because you have six cores does not mean your faster, just like the phenom II x4 965 BE is one of the better overclockers even to date. But since you only game i would strongly recommend sticking with a quad core or waiting for the bulldozer line. If you can wait i personally would. As for the thermal compound im not going to vouch for anything i havn't personally used. It seems alright but if it where me i would go with Arctic Silver 5 Still after so many years the best thermal compound in my opinion.
