Problem with DVD/CD-ROM Hi' there
Been having this strange problem with my Lite-on DVD burner which I haven't been able to find a solution to anywhere.
When I goto My computer and opens the DVD Folder it starts spinning for a second, shows the folders on the DVD then more or less freeze when I open a folder. (sometimes it display the folder content before freezing). Same when I try to burn a DVD/CD, it spins for a second then stops with a write Error.
I am also unable to copy anything from a DVD both from windows and from a command prompt.
This problem occours no matter what DVD I got in it and even when I start the computer in Safe Mode.
If I boot from the harddrive in my other computer everything works just fine so I am pretty sure it's not a hardware error.
The DVD-Rom seems to be installed properly under device manager and have been working just fine until last week.
Any ideas what could be wrong and what I could try to fix it? | My System Specs |

Did you try the drive in another computer and it works fine? If not, chances are, the drive is dead, if you can't even boot from it. You could try reseating the cables, and updating it's firmware, if available, but given that new drives are only $20, I'd replace it before I spent too much time on it. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 CPU Intel Core i7-2600 Motherboard Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3P-B3 Memory 12 GB Patriot Extreme DDR3-1333 Graphics Card Nvidia GTX 470 Monitor(s) Displays Dell UltraSharp 2209WA PSU OCZ ModStream 700W Case CoolerMaster HAF 912 Advanced Cooling CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Plus Hard Drives OCZ Agility3 240 GB, WD5001AALS, WD7501AALS |

would have been my guess too, but when I boot from another harddrive (borrowed from my other pc with same motherboard) it works fine, so I am pretty sure it's a windows error of some kind. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Intel Q6600 Motherboard Asus Maximus Formula Memory 4GB OCZ Graphics Card Zotac Gtx 485 Sound Card Asus Xonar Monitor(s) Displays Dell 30'' PSU NorthQ 1000w Case LianLi Cooling Water Hard Drives C300 Corsair SSD 128gb |

Why don't I get the white message after restarting the comp
My disk is only allowing me to reinstall on a bootable drive. Why don't I get the black and white message after restarting the computer that I need to hit any key to open up the disk so that I can install on a data only disk. My computer does not recognize my Windows 7 auto function. My boot sequence(CDROM and HD) has been changed several times without correcting the problem. I had a code 39 problem earlier indicated in contol panel and corrected the problem only part way.
In the past I have had two ways to install windows 7 since Oct 08. Something is wrong with my computer. Please help!!!!! http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;314060 used . Nero uninstalled. Belarc information available with different format. jhmac77, you've asked a few times on how to create a new post, but yet you keep posting questions in other thread. I'd ask a mod to fix this right away. The new thread buttons are on top of each subforum section....not hard to find at all.
Now, to mic6, I'm still confused. If the DVD drive isn't reeading a disc, why are you swapping hard drives from other computers? Am I missing something about the issue you are having? When I asked if you moved the drive to another computer, I meant the DVD drive you were having trouble with. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 CPU Intel Core i7-2600 Motherboard Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3P-B3 Memory 12 GB Patriot Extreme DDR3-1333 Graphics Card Nvidia GTX 470 Monitor(s) Displays Dell UltraSharp 2209WA PSU OCZ ModStream 700W Case CoolerMaster HAF 912 Advanced Cooling CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Plus Hard Drives OCZ Agility3 240 GB, WD5001AALS, WD7501AALS |

DeaconFrost: swapped drive to test if worked on my other windows system, no room in the other pc for a dvddrive. and it works fine when I boot from the other (borrowed) drive. The dvddrive also works if I insert my windows CD and boots from that one but not in my regular windows. It detects the drive fine, but freezes after 1-2 seconds of any type of operation. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Intel Q6600 Motherboard Asus Maximus Formula Memory 4GB OCZ Graphics Card Zotac Gtx 485 Sound Card Asus Xonar Monitor(s) Displays Dell 30'' PSU NorthQ 1000w Case LianLi Cooling Water Hard Drives C300 Corsair SSD 128gb |

Thanks Anak
Yep just bought and replaced the cable with a brand new one and now it seems to be working.
But doesn't make much sense that Windows install CD would boot and run and it worked nicely under my other windows. Then again, hardware can be acting pretty strange sometimes. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Intel Q6600 Motherboard Asus Maximus Formula Memory 4GB OCZ Graphics Card Zotac Gtx 485 Sound Card Asus Xonar Monitor(s) Displays Dell 30'' PSU NorthQ 1000w Case LianLi Cooling Water Hard Drives C300 Corsair SSD 128gb |

Your welcome mic6, glad to hear you have it working again.
Yes it did seem odd at first, but you reported that the unit worked correctly in your other machine.
With all the moving of the DVD drive between your two or more? machines it would be quite easy to damage a cable connection.
If you were curious enough to check, one or more of the wires leading to the connectors may have been frayed where they entered the connector.
The connector itself may have been stretched to a point that reduced the surface tension to make a good connection.
Then when the drive spun up it caused enough vibration to cause the erratic behaviour. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Gateway DX4831e (Mid-Tower Desktop) OS Win 7 Home Premium 64bit Ver 6.1.7600 Build 7601 - SP1 CPU Intel i3 530 2.93GHz, 2933MHz 2 Cores 4 Logical Processors Motherboard Gateway H57M01 133 megahertz Memory 6GB of 1,333MHz DDR3 SDRAM Graphics Card 32MB Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD IGChip Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays Gateway HX2000 20inch TFT active matrix TN Screen Resolution 1600 x 900 x 59 hertz Keyboard MS 'Natural' Standard PS/2 Enhanced 101-102 Key Mouse Gateway USB wired optical PSU 300watts.
