    epson print preview

I've a Styluscolor880. In XP I can flag (in box Properties) "Print Preview" so whenever I launch a print I see a window of preview and then I can decide if print or not.
Now I've installed win7 32-bit. I've correctly installed the printer either USB either in network, but in the "properties" there isn't flag "print preview". Anyone can help me? thanks

I would assume that has to do with the printer driver. The XP driver has that capability, but Epson left it out of their W7 driver.

For your printer there is no Epson Win 7 Driver. Epson say:
A suitable driver is not available on the product's CD or to download from the Epson website. Microsoft supplies a basic TWAIN driver with the operating system which offers basic functionality and can be used by a TWAIN-compliant application to import images directly to the computer or application itself. This functionality is supported by the Microsoft OS and not by Epson."
When you open a program that you would normally print from, under File, do you get Print Preview? Perhaps disabling the printer, shutting down the PC and rebooting to give the OS another crack at loading the driver might just work. I seems odd if MS has omitted this feature!

In normal applications I've under File Print preview but I found useful the preview in epson sw
If I've understood you suggest to

    • disable printer
    • reboot
    • and after?
Sorry, I don't understand "to give OS another crack...."; what do you mean?

    thanks

When you first installed the printer onto your Win 7 machine did it not just plug and play or did you need a CD to load the software because i understood the statement from Epson to mean that the driver for the printer was within the Win 7 Operating system!

    thanks for your reply.

    1. If I install on win7 not by USB plug and Play neither by cd (that doesn't exist, I think) I don't find Styluscolor 880 in the list of epson printers in combobox of "Add a printer", So I'm unable to install it.
    2. After have installed it By usb, when I've attempted to install by network (after NetUse command in dos on Lpt1 and Typing its path "//server/printername"), I've selected in "add a printer" window "Windows Update" Button and only Styluscolor 880 has been joined to epson printer list.

    So you suggest:

    1. uninstall (either usb either network printer)
    2. reboot
    3. reinstall without usb, but directly as I've explained in previous point 2.

I can do it if I find Styluscolor 880 in the list of epson printers after have uninstalled it: I hope so.

Then You think "Print Preview" can reappair in Printer properties.

    Have I understood correctly?

    Thanks so much

Sorry but I just don't understand what you mean. I still can't see how you installed the printer in the first place and as it looks that confusing I would suggest that if it works then leave it alone. I think this is an older printer, that model looks as if it has been around for a few years now so that's why there doesn't appear to be an Epsom Win 7 driver. I would live with pressing Print Preview as and when you need it if I were you!

I apologize for my bad engllish and may bad comprehension.
However I try to explain it better to you.

    1. I 've a styluscolor880 (SC880) installed on a pc (PC1) with xp that is in a home-network.
    2. It works correctly with all pc connected in the network (all XP) and it has "Print Preview" feature on "Printer Properties" from every pc in network
    3. I'm upgrading 1 PC (PC2) to win7 32
    4. So I've to install SC880 to this pc on win7
    5. I try to search printer from PC2 on PC1 on network and select "Connect"
    6. It downloads some drėver from PC1 and gives error code
    7. I connect printer to PC2 by usb and it installs correctly
    8. So I type "Net use lpt1 //server/printer..." on prompt dos
    9. Add Printer using "Windows Update" on its window, so it appairs SC880
    10. Finally printer is reachable on network from PC2
    11. But it hasn't "Print preview" function on "Printer Preferences" as it had on XP

I've understood you suggest to uninstall and reboot to have "Print preview" function on "Printer Preferences: Have I understood correctly?

I hope to have clarified. Is it?

    thanks so much

    Hi now I understand.
Item 6 aboveOn your network if you download a driver for this printer on your PC1 machine it will probably be for Windows XP which is what you have on your PC1. hence the error code when you try that driver on the Win 7 PC (PC2)
Item 7 Above,. The driver built in to Windows 7 does not appear o have the Print preview facility in it.
    Conclusion:
I would suggest that if it works then leave it alone. I think this is an older printer, that model looks as if it has been around for a few years now so that's why there doesn't appear to be a dedicated Epson Win 7 driver. I would live with pressing Print Preview as and when you need it if I were you!

EDIT: I have just done a bit more checking and find that this printer came out in the days of Winows 95 so it is getting a bit long in the tooth. I think you are lucky to get it working at all in Windows 7
