    Does it matter where i connect my Hard drive?


    I have a asus p5lp-le(Leonite)
    Motherboard description>>>>>
    Manufacturer's motherboard name: ASUS P5LP-LE
    HP/Compaq name: Leonite-GL8E

    HP and Compaq Desktop PCs - Motherboard Specifications, P5LP-LE (Leonite) - c00864946 - HP Business Support Center

    I have Four sata ports where i can connect my HD data cable.
    They are numbered from 1-4
    Does it matter where i connect my master drive?

    Master drive where you want the OS would be best in #1. Then if you add second third go to 2 then 3 etc.

    Easier for you to remember later and I think less problematic with the PC also.

    Connect it to the first port if it is the drive with the OS.

    No, I don't think it matters, as the SATA controller treats all drives equally. There are no Master/Slave conventions in SATA.

    Drive in port 1 may initialize 3 milliseconds faster than drive in port 4, but only if all 4 ports are populated.

    But I always plug my boot drive in Port 1!

    Since i keep replacing hd to format them and using them as back up or for some other resaon and when im done i jst plg em anywhere. but i guess ill make sure to leave the master with the OS in on the 1st port!!!
