I can't use 6gb of memory if i use the new processors?
The current P67 board have 4 DIMM slots. They support 4GB DDR3 DIMMs, so that's 16GB. Some manufacturers have stated that they'll support 8GB DIMMs, when they become available.

    Some of your other questions:

X58 is for Socket 1366. P67 is Socket 1155 (Sandy Bridge.) Socket 1366 CPUs support triple channel RAM, while Sandy bridge is dual. (However, the dual channel performance of SB is considerably better than that of the first generation dual-channel Socket 1156 Core I7/I5 CPUs. By one benchmark, it's 84% of triple channel for the same RAM frequency. From triple/dual, you'd expect 67%.)

Corsair is a good memory brand. Other makes may be a better deal, however. (Example: Gskill. Buy carefully, though: older series can be priced higher than newer ones with specs that are as good or better. I have no personal experience with Gskill, though.)

SSD? You might want to try to find one with a Sandforce controller.

Let me repeat: the Sandy Bridge CPUs use Socket 1155. The I7-9XX chips are all Socket 1366. They require different motherboards.

One other thing: if you want to overclock a SB processor, be sure to but one of the models with a k suffix (I7-2600k, I5-2500k). They have unlocked multipliers. Unlike the first-gen I7/I5 CPUs, they essentially cannot be overclocked by raising the bus frequency.

I've used G.Skill in my last few builds and have been very happy with it. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

It could help to know where you plan on purchasing your parts as not everything available here in the U.S. is available to you.
    Thanks. Fabe

I assume you are looking at Alternate or Conrad for buying the bits. If you ned the links, let me know.
For the Cas latency it will depend on the speed. The lower, the better (e.g. 4). I would not change the voltage.

I finally managed to save some money for a new computer, about three thousand and i wanted to buy a state of the art computer.

I wanted to know your opinions on which memory, motherboard, everything that i should get. Like, should i get the new generation of i7 or should i get the sixcore?
Which SSD should i get? Which RAM and how much should i buy? Which brand?
You know, that kind of stuff.

Processor: I was thinking on getting a sixcore i7 or the new generation of i7.
Memory: I was thinking OCZ, 2133 MHz GOLD or REAPER.
HD: I was thinking something like RevoDrive or whichever is the best and cheapest.
Motherboard: I was thinking EVGA Classified or Asus Rampage III
    Video Card: GTX 580
DVD: I have no idea. I wanted a blu ray reader and burner.
    PSU: I have no idea.
Case: I wanted an alienware case but thats a no go. Any ideas will help.

I'm also considering to have a notebook, so if you know a very good cheap notebook let me know :)
Hi Alex RD - Youre into the "fun part" now - putting together a new system - so many choices. I went through that a year ago (had only a bit more than you to spend) and its quite an experience. In my case I am more than happy how things turned out. Most of my system came from Alienware. I got one of thier less expensive cases but its more than adequate for me. Yes, make sure you start of with a good PSU.

Some advice, - take your time; study things - you have lots of choices and theres lots of smart people out there to ask for suggestions, especially on this Forum.:):):) Have Fun !!!

Alternate and Conrad are big German electronics shops on the web (similar to Newegg in the US). They usually have better prices than the locals and a HUGE selection. I mentioned those since I figured you were in Germany.

ALTERNATE. Hardware - Software - Entertainment

Conrad - Online Shop für Technik, Elektronik und innovative Ideen

Hi AlexRD - My case came from Alienware (I bought their base Aurora package) and option optimized it for the water cooled overclocked 980X - Then later added my SSDs, Ext Drive, Kbd, Mouse , Display and more Overclocking. :):):)

They have at least 3 different Desktop cases. The Alienware FX LED lighting is a nice touch.
