New Win7 connect 2 WinXP computer's printer. Hi,
I am trying to print from my new computer and have tried sharing permissions etc. and downloaded a driver but it might be wrong. What do I need to do?
The XP computer has the printer connected to it. I would like to print in current set up and be able to connect to new 7 computer direct.
Thanks for any help. | My System Specs |

Hi Torgwen, welcome to the Seven Forums.
Here's something you could try to print from Seven to printer connected to XP: Printing Win7 to XP using NET USE LPT@

Is the printer in XP shared? Can XP and Seven see each other in your network and share files? | My System Specs | | Computer type Laptop System Manufacturer/Model Number HP ENVY 17-1150eg OS Windows 7 x64 Ultimate CPU 1.6 GHz Intel Core i7-720QM Processor Memory 6 GB Graphics Card ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 Graphics Sound Card Beats sound system with integrated subwoofer Monitor(s) Displays 17" laptop display, 22" LCD and 32" Full HD TV through HDMI Screen Resolution 1600*900, 1680*1050 and 1920*1080 Keyboard Logitech diNovo Media Desktop Laser (bluetooth) Mouse Logitech MX1000 Laser (Bluetooth) Hard Drives Internal: 2 x 500 GB SATA Hard Disk Drive 7200 rpm

The computers can see each other. Could it be a Workgroup issue? I've tried under the original computer name and the Windows 7 default name. When I remove printers and try to set up a Workgroup it says I have no access to the computer with printer though I have enabled printer sharing a few times. I've just removed the Workgroup and the network is letting me see other computers. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Premium 64bit |

Both computers must belong to the same workgroup, and the printer must be shared. | My System Specs | | Computer type Laptop System Manufacturer/Model Number HP ENVY 17-1150eg OS Windows 7 x64 Ultimate CPU 1.6 GHz Intel Core i7-720QM Processor Memory 6 GB Graphics Card ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 Graphics Sound Card Beats sound system with integrated subwoofer Monitor(s) Displays 17" laptop display, 22" LCD and 32" Full HD TV through HDMI Screen Resolution 1600*900, 1680*1050 and 1920*1080 Keyboard Logitech diNovo Media Desktop Laser (bluetooth) Mouse Logitech MX1000 Laser (Bluetooth) Hard Drives Internal: 2 x 500 GB SATA Hard Disk Drive 7200 rpm

I can't sort out the Workgroup. On Windows 7 it says it has joined a workgroup then when printer doesn't work and I do a check it says it is not in a Workgroup. I've tried un-joining and re-joining. Is this actually possible? | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Premium 64bit |

I have the feeling you are now mixing homegroup and workgroup, which are two different things. Windows 7 computers can belong to both homegroup and workgroup, XP computers only to workgroup. Here's how you check the current workgroup of Windows 7 and change it if needed: Workgroup Name - View and Change
In Xp, you check and change computer name and workgroup by right clicking My Computer, selecting Properties, and clicking the Computer Name tab.
