HP nc6400 nic stays lit all the time

Hello,

Not sure if this belongs here or in the Network & Sharing forum.

I have a nc6400 laptop where the nic card stays lit all the time, even when the computer has been shut off. I've had Sony and Dell notebooks that have never exhibited this behavior before.

Is there a setting I can go to turn it off?

Thanks.

this means the network card supports WOL. Wake On LAN. you maybe able to turn this feature off if bios, however by just unplugging the cable or turning off the router should work....lol.

So you're saying if I go into the BIOS and disable Wake On LAN, that should fix the problem? That having it enabled and lit all the time is normal behavior?

it's not a problem as such. it's a feature. WOL allows you to remotely wake the computer using the network. quite handy for remote working or patch weekends on large corp networks...

however yes, there should be a setting buried somewhere in bios to allow it to be turned off.
it is a default on most modern computers.
