Windows 7 - unistall WMDC update - transferred from vista 32

i have a new windows 7 computer and i moved my data and applications (pcmover). I plugged in my hd2 phone and got nothing. I went out and found that i had to install the 64bit version. Downloaded that and tried to install, got the error a newer version exists and must be unistalled.

I went to Programs-unistall programs and found the WMDC and unistalled it (It dissapeared from the screen.) Then went to the WMDC update and tried to unistall it and it runs through the unistaller but stays on the list. I am unable to install the 64 bit WMDC. I have tried to re-install the orig 32 version and that will not install (many posts said to reinstall and then unistall). I have connected the phone and the only thing that shows up in device manager is under Other Devices-Unknown Device. I have restarted several times during processes tried above.

Any help is appreciated. (why doesn't the program for installing the new version simply unistall the old!!??)
