If you want something solid, then go buy an eee 1000H. I you want something stylish the i would go for the samsung NC10. I have the eee, and it works great, but if you want to install 7 on, you should consider buying one more gig of memory for it. But otherwise is a fine little machine, and the battery time is 4-5 hours with windows 7.

You probably won't be eligable for the vista thing, cause MS only allows XP on netbooks.

I have a 1000he, seven runs great, except with flash, then it just stutters along, intel is about to release new atom based chips, so look around to see what the latest atoms are and don't but the older ones.

I think the first question is how much are you looking to spend?

That's not correct. Many netbooks are available with Vista (Dell Mini 10, for example (not the 10V)). Netbook makers CAN offer XP with low-spec netbooks, and most do, but it's not that Microsoft requires it. Indeed, MS would prefer that Vista be installed as they get more money for it.

I will also comment that the Windows 7 upgrade applies, I think, only to the Home Premium, Business and Ultimate editions.

If price isn't a concern, then don't get a netbook. There are many ultraportables around the same weight and dimensions, but are much much better quality and a good deal faster.

One of those HP Mini's has Vista Business as OS when you buy it

Well I could need all the help I can get in this area actually. I am looking for something small, basically will be used for light work, torrenting, internet surfing so I dont have to use my big rig so often.

I am looking at the Samsung NC20 and it looks really awesome on paper. Its 509 bucks shipped from Newegg + 23 bucks for a 2 gb ram stick. And it has a 12 inch 1280 x 800 screen. It is based on the VIA chips and everyone is saying it is faster than the Intel Atoms. So far that is winning the race. If someone else has some other suggestions I definitely welcome it. Ultraportables netbooks dont really matter. Heck I was even looking at the Voodoopc 13.3 inch envy!
