    USB storage read issues

I'm having a problem with reading USB storage media, be it a CF card or external HDD. I'm not getting any error messages form Windows itself, but attempts to open files that are either on on or copied from the USB device fail, with warnings of file corruption and unexpected end of file.

I know the data itself is sound, as it all works fine on other computers (running XP and Ubuntu). I'm pretty sure it isn't the card reader, as I've tried multiple different readers on multiple computers.

    I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, with an Asus P5KPL-AM IN/GB motherboard, Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 processor and a GeForce 9800GT.

Any insight into this would be much appreciated.

Sounds like it might be the USB port itself that is the problem. Perhaps you should take your system in to be checked -- or if you're computer savvy enough, do the diagnostics (and repair/replacement) yourself.

I had an issue kind of like this and it turned out it was my internal card reader that was causing my front usb ports to mess up. I unplugged the card reader from the motherboard and everything worked fine. It was kind of weird and took me forever to figure out that was the culprit.

I just thought it might be worth a try...

If it is an Intel mobo try updating the chipset drivers to the latest from the official site of the mobo manufacturer (ASUS, ACER) or via Intel's site.
