HP Photosmart 7550 for windows 7, 64bit solution.

Here is a work around I found that works for me, better than the solution HP gave me.
Download the 7550 software and go as far as the setup will take you. When you get to the point that that tells you it won't work and if you want to delete and restart, click yes.
When you get back take these steps.
    1. Go to control panel
    2. Click on "Devices and Printers"
    3. Click on "Add a Printer"
    4. Click on "Add a Local Printer"
    5. Dot the circle on "Use a local port" and find the 7550 port on the dropdown list.
    6. Click next and pick HP and HP Photosmart D7500 series in the boxes
    7. Click next and follow the instructions.

Hope this works for you as it did for me.

I have a HP Photosmart 7550 attached to a WinXP 32-bit machine acting as a print server on my home network. I did the following to install the HP Photosmart 7550 printer on my Win 7 64 bit Professional:

    Start

    Devices and Printers

    Add a printer

ADD A LOCAL PRINTER (My Win 7 machine is on the network away from the print server. The printer is not physically attached to the Win 7 machine.)

Create a new port. Type: Local port.

For Enter a port name: \\PrintServerComputerName\Photosmart7550ShareName
(If you get an error message here saying it can't connect, then you have issues seeing the shares over your network. Resolve this first before installing the printer. Make sure your security settings on the share is not restrictive, check your firewall settings, disable browser service if necessary, also check your network settings on the Win7 machine. Are you using password protect? Are you using homegroup? I got rid of them all.)

Once you get through you will be asked to assign a print driver. Before doing this, click on Windows Update button. Once the driver has been updated, find the driver HP Photosmart 7400 series. I did not use the Deskjet 5550 series that some other solutions claim to use. I just stuck with the Photosmart series.

Finish installing and print a test page.

genesoldies, thank you so much! I was about to throw my HP 7550 out when I found your solution. I tried it and it works! I have windows 7 installed and had given up on my HP 7550 printer for several years. I purchased the HP B8550 and was happy with it when all of a sudden the right roller went out. So I decided to pull out my old printer and look for a solution. Lots of sights including HP suggest to install Deskjet 5550 but it didn't work for me. I also noticed other people complaining about the issue.

If your looking for a solution for your HP Photosmart 7550 Windows 7 issue try "genesoldies" seven steps it works!
