I have an external HDD, and since a few weeks ago its been have really weird security problems. When I plug it into a computer, and I try to access any of its contents, I get a warning:
The only way I can possible access these files is using 'Take Ownership', but I don't have access to 'Take Ownership' at work and stuff, so it is really killing me. Please, I need help ASAP!

This is at work? Is someone in charge of IT problems? Take the HD home to "fix" it.

The above link will show you how to enable permissions for yourself. Your statement above, however, implies that either this is a work drive or that you use it at work? Whatever the case, you should check with your IT dept before changing security their devices or using your own device on their network. I think most IT's take that kind of thing seriously.

Being external, I'm assuming that this drive doesn't contain system files. You may or may not know that changing permissions on system partitions and system files can cause many troubles, as a search in these forums will quickly reveal. It's a frequently posted issue here.
