    Maximum memory per slot?

    Hi,

I have a dell dimension 9200 and the motherboard can handle a maximum of 4gb of ram, but is there a limit per slot?

In other words does it have to be 4 x 1gb sticks of ram or can I use 2 x 2gb sticks?

The reason I ask is that I've had lots of bsod and crashes recently and after performing lots of tests using memtest it seems that 2 of the ram slots on my motherboard are bad meaning I only have 2 good ones to use.

RAM Memory Upgrade: Dell, Mac, Apple, HP, Compaq. USB drives, flash cards, SSD at Crucial.com will provide that answer for you.

    According to crucial
Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 PC2-6400 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.

Your motherboard should have 4 slots, each capable of 1GB max memory giving you capability of 4GB total memory.
       Note
If you do think of upgrading then please get the memory that your slots can handle. pparks1 has provided the speed & timings that you require for an effitient upgrade

As mentioned in my original post, 2 of the slots aren't working properly meaning I only have 2 working slots which is why I was wondering if 2 x 2gb was possible.

You'll find that depending on what you need to do, 2GB can be quite sufficient

Dell Dimension: 2Gb or 1Gb memory?

I have one of these units. You can use 2gb memory cards but you'll have to leave two slots open. The cards install staggered. I was confused over this issue too when I first acquired my system. I decided to try it and see if two 2Gb boards would operate properly. Crucial, btw, is wrong - nothing new there. nyteshade

    8GB

I know this is a really old thread but for anybody seeing this in 2015. I have installed 2gb of kingston ram in each slot. Making it 8GB in my dell dimension 9200. Runs Fallout 4 great with my gtx 650 graphics card
