    OCZ Core SATA II Solid State Drive


    Thinking of getting a 32GB one for my OS... Anyone have one and what do you think of it? What would it score on WEI?

    32GB seems a little tight to me for the OS. It would be over 50% with just the base OS...not leaving much room for updates, service packs, etc. I'd really hold off and save your money until you can get into a 60GB OS drive. That's just my suggestion.

    I agree with pparks1. With a 32GB drive you will probablt have about 27GB usable. Windows 7 will take up about 16GB which will only leave about 11GB for everything else. I have a 90GB vertex2 which gives me about 83GB of usable space. I have all my user files and some programs on another hard drive. I have used about 30GB from my SSD.

    $40 dollar mail in rebate offer good until the 13'th I think so the real price after I get the rebate back would be a rough 73 bucks which is only a dollar and a few cents per gig of space.... also what are the thoughts on Hybrid solid state drives? thinking of getting one of those as well for everything except my OS

    Is it impossible to make the 32 gig ssd work for the OS? Because that one is only $50 bucks out of pocket after shipping but the other would be $113 out of pocket and I still wouldn't be able to fit the only game I play the most as well as OS on it because it's current size is 29gigs (World of Warcraft)... So if I was gonna go $113 I might as well go with a $200 dollar unit and actually have the space to add more programs unless I could make the $50 dollar 32gig work for OS... This system was always supposed to be a budget setup, I mean the most expensive piece in it is my graphics card at $169 so the $50 dollar one would kinda work into things better lol but if it takes a 64 gig one I will go that option but if I'm gonna go with a 64gig and wait on a rebate (When I hate doing rebates) I might as well pick up a 128gig on ebay for roughly $179 but that would make it the most expensive single piece in my system which just seems a bit much

    It will also be the component which makes the biggest difference in your overall computing performance. Not a bad place to spend your money. :)

    If the budget is that tight right now, then hold off. The nice thing about computers is that if you wait long enough you can always afford the best stuff. At least, the best stuff from a year or two ago. With SATA III just hitting its stride, SATA II drives should start to drop in price soon. The same can be said of SSDs in general.

    Once you get one you will be glad you did, though.

    Thank you for the reply... I have always hated seeing that single low WEI score of 5.9 so I had been wanting an SSD for a while and when I came across the $50 dollar 32GB one new on ebay it made me wanna go ahead and take the plunge but only for the sake of a snappier windows experience... But ofc after thinking it over and finding out that a 32GB won't be sufficient I began to look into larger ones and right now the price point per gig of space may just be a little too intimidating to my frugal nature and cob webbed pocket book lol... Wish I could get a decent quality 120 gig one at a dollar a gig but that's probably a few years off -frowns-... And belonging to this forum doesn't do me any favors when I have to see all you guys with your smexy solid state drives when I'm still on the archaic storage technology of yesterday lol
