    You need to format the disk '?' before you can use it


    So i've searched the forums, and have came to similar problems. The problem is as follows.


    Someone wanted me to back up their data from two computers, both with windows xp onto an external hdd. I plugged in a brand new external and both computers were able to read/ write to them without any issues. Once I backed up all the data, I then proceeded to install windows 7 on a laptop. I plugged the external up to the windows 7 laptop and all of a sudden I have to format the disc before I can use it and not even none of the windows xp machines can access the drive with a format.

    Is there anyway around this? Or how can I recover the data? thanks

    Please try the Partition Wizard partition recovery software.

    Very surprising. Does the drive show up in Windows 7 Disk Management? If it does please put out a screenshot of the same.
