    Raid 10 in windows 7


    alright i have a GIGABYTE GA-MA790GP-UD4H it has built in raid can do raid 0, 1, 5, 10

    i have 4 western digital caviar black enterprise raid edition 500gb sata drives setup in a raid 10 config i have install windows 7 successfully and run tests everything is running great only problem is that my windows rating went from 5.9 to 6.0 i thought it would go alot higher considering my setup but am i wrong to think this or is there something i am missing???? any help would be amazing thanks!

    I think you are still limited on random access reads by hard disk latency and you won't see much more on WEI unless you go to SSD. Raid 0 might get you a bit more but you prob don't want that.

    Youv'e tackled part of the WEI score - sequential reads/writes, but not the random accesses of smaller files. Here you still have the hard disk head seek latency. You can get disks with smaller seek time or an SSD.

    I recollect seeing someone who posted a WEI score for a 4 disk raid 10 (effectively striping across two disks) who switched back to RAID 0 (striped across 4 disks) and got something like 0.2 increase.

    I wouldn't worry about WEI too much. Your sequential speeds on raid 10 are probably more than adequate for most anything so I wouldn't go to raid 0.
