Can't access content on USB drive

Hi. I got this acer laptop running Windows 7 just a week ago and everything is working find except when I plug in a USB flash drive I can't see the contents. When I find the drive under 'Devices and Printers' it lists it and says it's working properly, but I can't see the contents. Am I looking in the wrong place? I know there's PDF docs on that drive. I'm basically a newbie at Windows 7, so I may be asking a really newbie question, but bear with me.

Be sure you check disk management to see if the drive is assigned a letter. To check this: Start -- > Right Click on My Computer --> Select Manage, under Storage select Disk Management. Look for the flash drive in the bottom pane.

I did that. Don't see where it's assigned a letter. I see the drive as Disk 1 Removable 1.96 GB. What do I do next?

If the drive has not been assigned a letter, go back into Disk Management --> Right Click on the Drive [in the bottom pane] --> Select Change Drive Letter and Paths --> Then Select Add.
