Windows 7 - sleep Modes

sleep Modes

They say if you go to the well too often you will find it dry. I am back again. My sleep modes have changed. I always ran my bios with the power control set in auto. In windows powercfg reported S1, S3 and hibernate was supported. All of sudden when it went into sleep it would either reboot or immediately come back up.
I have latest bios (1301). I have tried reloading the bios to see if that would correct it to no avail.
Things checked:
running tasks (task scheduler) -- not
USB setting for power down -- not
Turned Lan cards off -- not
Turned screen saver off -- not
Turned wallper slide show off -- not
Ran repair install -- not
Checked task manager for any activity -- no activity
I use a MS 5000 wirless mouse and key board. I replaced them with a hardwired USB key board and mouse. No Workie.
Trouble shot with powercfg and found nothing signifcant. Last_Wake showed nothing. Ran some other commands with powercfg but found nothing that I could tie it to.
If I set the bios to S1 only it will sleep in S1 I may be stuck with that. I don't know where to look in the registry or I would have been there.

Dear HammerHead,
I too faced similar prob. a few weeks back, but managed to overcome it by changing the PowerOptions in C-panel. I am posting three snaps below and see if it helps.

with regards,

Cahnge Settings

Ok I'll try some different settings. This rig is about four months old. Something could have degraded on my mobo. One thing I gained is speed from the reinstallation.

Time will tell

I think maybe it did help with some new longer settings. I put the bios back to "auto" which gives me more states.

Hot Fix

I applied the fix to my rigs. They are very close to identical. It fixed one of them. On the fixed rig Hibernate is available and working and the machine goes to sleep and wakes as it should. I applied it to the second rig and no help. On the second rig I found if I unchecked the wireless keyboard and mouse so it could not wake the machine it wil go into sleep mode correctly. I have to hit the power button to wake it up. Haven't had time to experiment with hibernate on the second machine yet.

Dear HH,
Thank you for keeping me in the loop! I've started searching for alternatives to disable "sleep Mode". Guess i have hit paydirt! Just browse this article for win.7 !
Disable Power Management on Windows 7 or Vista - How-To Geek

What he basically says in the article is --> control panel-->Hardware and sound--> Power Options--> choose "HIGH PERFORMANCE"-->Opposite to it-->CHANGE PLAN SETTINGS -->Turn off the display-->NEVER and Put the computer to sleep -->NEVER and just see the clip below. I have kept the desktop idle for more than 45 minutes and no sleep or hibernation

Regards,
Sreedhav

Solved

I suspected my vid driver which was EVGA 266,58 for EVGA 570, but I couldn't prove it. Nvidia has a new Beta (267.24) which I installed and the problem evaporated.

Dear HH,
I feei happy for you, that at last you resolved the prob. for yourself! Buggy drivers seem to be behind many a problem! I have a NVidia GE Force 5400 GS Graphics card( not meant for playing!) and the desktop seems to be better off after i upgraded to the latest version of drivers of the above card. Thanks for keeping me in the loop! I am sure you will sleep better!

Sreedhav
