Hello Seven Forums!
I am about to assemble a new i7 system for Audio use and I would like to get some feedback or criticism from my fellow readers. This has been a plan for over a year now and I feel I have chosen adequate parts for my intended use. This forum is the logical choice to look for guidance for what will be my first build using current technology. I have done several AMD builds for myself and friends and I am excited to start using the i7 950 and triple channel ram.
Components:
Intel i7 950 with stock fan
Intel DX58SO motherboard
Corsair XMS DDR3 ram 2x3 8-8-8-24
Zalman RS-500 power supply
4U rack mounted case
6 2.5" SATA 110gig hard drives with hot swap bay for 2 drives
M-Audio Delta 1010lt PCI sound card X2
Undetermined video card, no disk drive.
Windows Seven X64 will be installed on two drives utilizing RAID0 and I look forward to trying OSX as well. Cost has played a role i the choice of components and working environments will also be considered. This machine will be the cornerstone of all my future music and audio projects and will be used in stationary and mobile situations both indoors and out.
After the initial installation I want to do a mild overclock for high performance situations, then underclock for silence and low power consumption/heat radiation.
In certain recording situations silence will be critical. My overclocking experience has been with AMD based machines using both BIOS and software tuning.
I intend on various upgrades as I become more familiar with the hardware and as components become accessible. All input from Seven Forums users will be considered.
Help me realize my dreams and offer your wisdom!
