Using SSD plus Secondary HDD. Hello All, I have been going through the SSD optimization guides in the forums and had a question when disabling services like Superfetch, and Prefetch. Will this affect the performance of my secondary HDD? I am using me SSD for Windows 7 and programs and using my HDD's for storage.
Thanks
Tyler. | My System Specs |

Hello Tyler,
I would recommend to leave Superfetch and Prefetch enabled. It will affect performance negatively if disabled. Superfetch is design to read from the HDD/SSD and write to RAM (memory) what it thinks you will need soon to make it available faster. It will not hurt the SSD at all since it is only reading from it.
If you used AHCI instead of IDE in your BIOS settings, then you should not have to worry about setting any of these settings in Windows 7 for your OCZ Vertex 2 SSD. For me, Windows 7 automatically set the settings in Windows 7 to what they should be for this SSD.
Hope this helps,

Hey Shawn thanks for the information, I get a little suspicious when reading optimization guides and I thought I would double check. I currently have the SSD in IDE since OCZ says that it is recommended. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit CPU AMD Phenom II X6 1100T 3.30 GHz Motherboard ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 AM3 AMD 880G HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Memory G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 Graphics Card XFX HD-577X-ZNFC Radeon HD 5770 Monitor(s) Displays Acer P244w Hard Drives OCZ Vertex 2. 120 GB

Anything you would have read at the OCZ support forum recommending IDE would have been for the first generation OCZ SSD drives. AHCI is the optimal setting for the Vertex2 drives.
You can use the link in the post below if you would like to have the SSD in AHCI mode.

Brink, I agree with what you said about the SSD needing ahci, but Barefoot Kid wrote a tutorial about how to enable ahci without reinstalling. I've tried it myself and it works great. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Home Built- Always under construction OS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 X64/ linux in VM CPU Intel i7-3770K Motherboard Asus Maximus V Extreme Z77 Memory 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws Z DDR3-2400 (2X4GB) Graphics Card EVGA GTX 670 SC 4GB Sound Card On Board Monitor(s) Displays Asus 24" LCD Screen Resolution 1920X1080 Keyboard Logitech G510 Mouse Logitech G500 PSU CORSAIR AX850 Case Cooler Master HAF X Cooling Custom Water Cooling Hard Drives Samsung 840 Pro 256 GB, Samsung 840 Pro 256 GB, Samsung 830 256GB, Samsung HD103SJ 1TB . Hello Steve,
Thank you for reminding me about that tutorial. It should help Tyler easily have the SSD use AHCI. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Self built custom OS 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 & Windows 8 Enterprise CPU Intel i7-3930K 3.2 Ghz (O/C 4 Ghz) Motherboard ASRock X79 Extreme11 Memory 32 GB (8GBx4) G.SKILL DDR3 Quad PC3-19200 2400MHz Graphics Card Sapphire HD5870 Eyefinity 6 2GB Sound Card SB Recon 3Di Integrated Chip Monitor(s) Displays 3x 27" Asus VE278Q Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5500 Revolution Mouse Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5500 Revolution PSU OCZ Series Gold OCZZ1000M 1000W Case Thermaltake Level 10 GT Snow Edition Cooling Corsair Hydro H100 Hard Drives 256GB OCZ Vector

No problem Shawn. I only remembered because I used it myself a couple months ago.
