Custom Built PC & Choosen Hardware Views...?

I've been sat here recently wondering if I was to build my own state of the art PC what hardware would I go for...

What case would I purchase, what motherboard, what graphics card etc. I just want to know what others think and if they had the money what would they go for...?

I went for a PC on one of these sites where you list the hardware you want in your tower and the total price when finished came to well over 5,000.00 and then and there thought No Way!!

Take a look at . . .

the Velocity Micro site. They have quite a few configurations available and have sufficient options to permit a lot of customization. I''m impressed with their build techniques (we have two VM destops in our household). Short of building your own, this may be a reasonable alternative at a decent price. By the way, I'm not associated with VM other than as a satisifed customer.

Thanks guys

I'm looking on eBay now at cases and theres some pretty nice looking liquid cooled cases on there going reasonably cheap. Am I aloud to post eBay links to items I've found on eBay or is that against forum rules...?

Thanks again guys for your help

Go with a sandy bridge processor. Preferably the K series. Get a motherboard which uses UEFI. Asus has a great mobo that even a newbi can over clock just by adjusting in the bios. No tedious multiple settings to play with. Am hearing some running at 5Ghz on air.

Thanks for the heads up I'll check out on eBay now see if I can see any. I can build PC's and have built plenty over the years it's just when it comes to super fast state of the art PC's I don't really have a clue. This PC i'm using her is quite fast but it looks ugly and the only decent thing is the RAM but looking online and seeing 16GB RAM PC's blows my mind because I though 8 was great.

At the present time I'm looking at cases that will be big enough for all that I want. Hopefully I'll get plenty of posts on different cases that will cope with all the top end hardware I want.

Thanks for the reply, appreciated

Find your processor and motherboard first. Then you will be able to find the right size case for it. Sandy bridge processors run cool. Not like the i7 predecessors. Plus they are less expensive too. There was a recall on all motherboards for SB so make sure you get an updated motherboard.

Yes someone else said that because theres nothing worse than getting the case and your motherboard doesn't fit, I was thinking however of sawing off the end if need be joke I haven't got the cash to go for to much expense and I can sell my Samsung U350 touch screen PC that I paid over 1,000.00 for 2 months ago and already its been sent back and all software re-installed so its more or less new apart from 2 weeks worth of usuage as they had it for 6 weeks

Should be able to build one for under $500 depending how much ram is needed, video card, etc.. Start with the basic's and add each month.
