hp psc 1200 series : no network printing

    Hi,
All my settings in Network and Sharing center are set right but when I enable network sharing in the printer's options it gives me error code 0x00000057. If anyone has any input that'd be great cause now I have to use this computer to print. Thanks.

It seems to be a comman one cuase I even found a refernce to it on our sister site for vista. this is where error 0x00000057 - Vista Forums also in this post there are directions to a page on microsoft abt this problem.

From the look of it I suspect you are running 64 bit win 7 and are not using a 64 bit printer driver

    Hope this helps

Yes it is 64 bit w7 but it worked fine with vista 64.
This is the error when trying to change settings, not trying to print. There is no driver specified by HP - it just says to plug it in to the computer. When I try to configure the printer:

    (X) Printer settings could not be saved. Operation could not be completed (error 0x00000057).

If you try to print over the network no error message, it just stays in the queue.

I was recently offered an update for psc1200 series by Windows Update.

I didn't install it as the printer is fine .

    Did you get that?

I did. I could try uninstalling it though.

EDIT: Not in list of installed updates, or available updates. I've installed all updates given to me but the language packs.

If you are dual booting - you could try rt click printer in device manager - update drivers - choose the manual method and point it at the Vista partition - it should pick up and install the drivers from there.

The drivers are stored in :

    "\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository"

Sadly, I am not. I will however, attempt to take them from my sister's laptop. Thank you for the info.

Ok I uninstalled the driver, reinstalled the one from vista and it gave me a different error code, which I found was W7 not allowing network printing on and firewall off. It is working now.

Is there a workaround where I can keep firewall of and network printing on... because windows firewall is a HUGE headache for me.
