Technology update 2011
For the last couple of months I have been working on a class for my local computer club (700 members) that I like to share with you. It gives a technology update for the PC, Tablets and Smartphones. The PC section probably shows nothing new for the seasoned forum member, but the tablet and smartphone section (over 40 charts) may contain some new information for you.
There are a variety of folders in the download Zip folder that are described in the quote window below. I draw your attention to the video control - I have narrated all charts in videos (that was the biggest job).
Understand that the members of the computer club are on average 70 years old - mainly nice little old ladies that struggle to manage the mouse. So I tried to keep the information understandable for them too.
The Zip folder you can download from here: Technology 2011.zip - Windows Live If you have any questions, let me know.
The content of the various subfolders is this:
Folder 1 – This folder contains all the charts as a Power Point show. The show is not self timed – you have to click on the charts to advance them.
There are many links – the yellowish words, the buttons and the pictures are links. If you click on those, you get a lot more detailed information regarding the particular subject.
Folder 2 – This folder contains a link from where you can download a free Power Point Viewer from a Microsoft site – in case you do not have Power Point.
Folder 3 – If you prefer, you can also study the charts in PDF format. This file in PDF format is exactly the same as the Power Point show – even the nice colors. All the links work here too.
Folder 4 – Here you find the controls to the narrated videos of all eight chapters – I have divided the video into the individual chapters so that you can watch them piece by piece and do not get bored. If you watch those, you will hear more or less the same words that I used in class – this should refresh your memory.
Folder 5 – In this folder you find the glossaries explaining the abbreviations and buzz-words used during the presentation. Those are links to documents that give you a lot more details.
Folder 6 – This is the User Manual of the Xoom tablet. It will give you an idea what you are up to when you embark into a tablet or smartphone. If you think PCs are complicated – watch this space. Tablets and smartphones can do more than PCs. Thus the user interface is richer.
