Sorry I can't help as I haven't used either, my external drive is a Seagate Expansion so not what you would call a portable one as it's used on a desktop computer, don't have a laptop.
I suppose it comes down to what you can afford and which one would give you all the features you need, have you read any reviews about them and if so which comes out the better buy ? | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Zoostorm Desktop/ Asus K55A Notebook PC OS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 32 bit/Windows 8 64bit CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 @ 2400 MHz/Intel B820,1.7GHz Motherboard Foxconn 45CMX/45GMX/45CMX-K/Asus Memory 2048 MB (2 x 1024 DDR2-SDRAM)/8GB 2 x 4GB DDR3 Graphics Card Intel Corp 82945G Integrated Graphics Controller/Intel Sound Card Onboard Realtek/Onboard Monitor(s) Displays Hanns.G HH221 22" inches Widescreen/Asus 15.6 Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080/1366 x 768 Keyboard Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 (UK)/Inbuilt Mouse Microsoft Optical Wheel Mouse/Touchpad Hard Drives ExcelStor (250GB)/Asus Internet Speed Just under 4MB download it's ADSL. I like my Rugged USB 2.0. I have had it for a couple of years with no problems, though others have had some I guess. Based in France may be a support issue, though I never needed it so don't know. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Home built (GeneO industries)/Model 3 OS Windows 7 64 bit SP1 CPU i5 2500k @ 4.5 GHz, 1.264V 124 GFlop (IBT with AVX) Motherboard ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 Memory 16GB (4GBx4) 1600MHz G.skill Ripjaws X 8-8-8-24 Graphics Card MSI GTX 660 Ti PE/OC, 2GB 7160 MHz DDR5 clock, 1228 Mhz Core Sound Card Onboard Realtek HD Monitor(s) Displays NEC Spectraview 2490WUXi-SV Screen Resolution 1920 x 1200 Keyboard HP Wireless Mouse HP wireless PSU Seasonic X-850 (2012 KM3 model) Case Fractal Design "Define R3" Cooling CM TPC 812 push/pull, 3 120mm, 2 TY-140 case fans Hard Drives Samsung 128GB 840 Pro SSD (System), Crucial 128GB M4 SSD, 2x WD Caviar 1TB Black internal (data), 1x WD Blue 6Gb/s 1TB Internal, 1x 2TB eSata WD20EARS Green, 2x 500GB Seagate external USB, 1x 350GB exte Internet Speed 27.8 Mb/s down, 5.6 Mb/s up Other Info USB 3.0 x4 , SATA III x4, eSATA x3, SATA II x4, USB 2.0 x8. 2 Samsung DVD R/W drives.

Dear Martin Dendev,
I have compared the specs, prices and popularity of the brands in question!
In my country, Seagate, WD, Iomega are rated in that order, not to forget that INDIA is the biggest out-sourcing country in the world both for USA(mainly) and also Europe. So, you "may" consider us computer-savvy" !
Guess you will be well off with Iomega! Just wanted to add, if you can, buy a 1TB drive and you won't regret it!
Regards,

Ive used the LACIE Rugged USB many times. They are quite tough, lets just say they would need to be for the people I gave them too. If you think that it is likely to be damaged, or want to make sure you have good USB protection, go with one of these. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Professional x64 Backtrack 4 R2 CPU Intel Core i5-650 Motherboard Gigabyte P55-UD3 Memory 4 GB Geil PC3 12800 Graphics Card HIS HD 4870 X2 Sound Card Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion Monitor(s) Displays BenQ 22" G2220HD Keyboard Microsoft SideWinder X6 Mouse Razer Abyssus PSU Antec High Current Gamer 620W Power Supply Case Thermaltake Armor+ MX Hard Drives Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB

Though I have four external portable drives - Two Seagate GoFlex and two Go - between the two you had marked, I would recommend the Lacie without a blink. Somehow IOmega had never impressed me and as Sreedhav mentioned it is not a brand on the run here in India. Neither is the Lacie but the reason for it is the usually high price. About 2 to 3 years back when a visitor to U.S.A wanted me to recommend an external hard drive to buy there, it was a Lacie without any alternative and to this day he is happy with it. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self-assembled OS Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit CPU AMD Phenom II X3 720 Processor Motherboard Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H Revision 1.0 Memory Transcend DDR2 (PC2 6400) 4 X 1GB Graphics Card Integrated + ATI Radeon 4550 Sound Card Integrated Realtek ALC 889A Monitor(s) Displays DELL 1704 FPT Screen Resolution 1280 x 1024 Keyboard Microsoft - wired Mouse Microsoft - wired PSU Coolermaster 400 W Case Zebronics Cube Cooling stock Hard Drives Western Digital Caviar SE16 250 GB x2 in RAID 0 Internet Speed ADSL 256-512Kbps |

hi all,
thanks for your quick answers.
as I see, many people would go for the Lacy.
Currently in Belgium, the Lacie is at the same price at the Iomega.
So I think i will go for the Lacie.
Thanks again and greetz from Belgium!
