    Laptop Test

Hey, my friend owns a computer repair business. he said i could start getting some jobs to work on with him but first he had a test for me.

well, first of all he gave me this laptop in pieces and he said that he had started it before he gave it to me. half the bezel around the keyboard was only attached by one screw. the monitor was only attatched by two cables.
he gave me a new CPU cooler and a screw set for the laptop.
he also said that the customer had tried to change the cooler himself.

    what i had to do
replace the broken cooler with a new one
put on a new piece of bezel
    boot the laptop up

    what i did
    i redid the cooler
i put on the trim piece
    put everything back together
went to boot it up and it wouldnt boot.

well i told my friend and he said to see if i could figure it out.
well, i tried to check the keyboard and the other cords. come to find out that one of the cables inside wasnt plugged, but it was on the back of the mobo. so i took off the mobo. piece by piece replugged everything and made sure it was exactly the same way.
put it all back together and it still wont start.

suggestions of things i might have missed or should i tell my friend the motherboard is fudged, from transport.

for the record its a gateway MT6452

try loosening the screws. you could have a short on the motherboard
