Copying the OS hard drive to a new hard drive

Hi, I'll be getting a new hard drive soon and I'm wondering if it is possible to copy the whole of my current C: drive including the OS to a new hard drive. Reason being the new hard drive will be faster and would be more beneficial for me.

    Thanks

Yes. The easiest way to do it is to clone the hard drive with C: to the new drive. There are several products to do this, but if one of your drives is a Western Digital or Seagate (maybe other HDD manufacturers as well) you can go to the drive manufacturers support site and download a special edition version of True Image Home. This has the capability to make a clone of one drive to another and it is fairly straight-forward. Basically you do the clone operation, shut down your computer, remove the old drive and connect the cloned drive to where it was (or swap them), and boot it up.

yes, but you will need to use a cloning program.
Seagate and Western Digital offer free versions that will work for their drives only.

They will work for any brand drive as long as you have one of their drives in your system, like I said.

Yes I know it a version of Acronis - just wondering if they have updated DiscWiz - it used to be based on ATI 11.

    Pretty old now.

I just used the WD version. If you install both disks and install the WD version on your old HD, when you open it there will be an option to clone the drive. A wizzard will come up, you select the drive to clone from then the drive to clone to. Your computer will shut down and the cloning will take place on startup. It was quite simple and worked great for me.

I don't know for Seagate, but it is still TIH 11 for WD. I expect it is the same for Seagate. I expect the clone functionality hasn't changed much.

That is OK by me tho - I find that every new major version of their software is worse than its predecessor.
