USB flash drives

i have windows 7 ultimate and about a month ago my Toshiba laptop just stopped allowing access to all new usb items such as flash drives and external drives and mp3 players. It recognizes them as new hardware but tells me that there is no driver. Is there a switch to turn on the plug & play.

It still recognizes anything i had in before that point just nothing new.
