    Wireless Router

Some one needs to tell me what I need.

This is for a Kindle Fire. Is what I need a wireless router? If so suggest some good ones at least middle of the line to top. With what features?

Does that mean when I am away from home I'll not have a connection even in a "hot spot"? (because I am lacking a wireless account with a provider?) You can see I have very little wireless experience.

Any newer wireless router will work and do the job.
You will only be able to access the internet when you are near a hot spot or any place that has a wireless router that is open.

There are many places that have open wifi hotspots available that you will be able to connect to and won't need any kind of an account. Starbucks, McDonald's, motels, hotels, libraries, etc... often have open hotspots for their customers to use. Sometimes you may need to ask for a code to connect but it will still be free.

The person or organization that has the hot spot has the account with the service provider. All you need is a WIFI capable device to connect and the password if there is one. An open or free hot spot will usually have no password and all you need to know is its SSID. Hotels etc may password protect their free WIFI just to keep the neighbors from getting a free Internet connection, but will give the password out to hotel guests. If you buy a router to use at home you will need an Internet hookup and account from a service provider to get Internet on it.

Ok, I ordered one. (Linksys WRT310N ) Should I uninstall my present router before installing the new one?

Yes, remove your old one and setup your new one and enjoy.

That router has a poor review and the main complaint is about drop connections and having to reset the router often, just an FYI in case you have problems.

    Mistake?

I might have made a poor choice. Price prompted me. It is on the road. When I get it installed I'll post back with my results.

    Chickened Out

I ordered and recieved Linksys E4200. It works great. If there is a negative it would be -- It is so easy to set up you don't learn anything along the way. Now I have got one still coming and don't know what to do with it.
