install hp multi function

Hi, I have a hp multi function hooked up to a win7pc by usb connection, I also have a laserjet hooked up to my ethernet lan. I am trying to install a hp 3310 with a ethernet connection. The latest win7 hp software gets almost to the end of the install routine until it asks how I want to connect it. I choose ethernet and it checks whatever, it shows my 3310 connections correctly and then tells me it cant connect. Win7 add a device cant find it. I can ping the unit ok, and I can connect to it through the ip address, and i can scan through the browser. If i go to win7s add a printer it installs a basic print driver and allows me to print as normal. All other xp pcs on the lan can print to it.

I would dearly love to use the scanner on the 3310.
By the way the 3310 worked with all functions when it was connected via usb to a xp pc. any ideas?

Hi, Cant say that idea appeals, simply want to install it using standard HP option to connect via ethernet, and use scan facility. This is because the 3310 is located very close to the win7 pc. I can probably TRY???? and install it with USB and than share it on the network, but that means in order to print from a remote pc the win7 pc has to be running. All remote pcs can now print on the 3310 with the win7pc off, which is all I want to be able to do with the remote pcs.

Thanks anyway

hello.
The following products are no longer for sale: HP Photosmart 3310 All-in-One Printer, Fax, Scanner, Copier (Q5863A

something tells me that your drivers for your 3310 are the default generic drivers and HP wants you to buy a new allinone to increase their bottom line. :D

Looks like you might be out of luck except in the generic way.

Hi, Thanks for the response. Are you saying that if the HP printer is no longer for sale then its no longer supported??????????????

Hp have various full feature software packages for this printer, and I downloaded the full feature software for my win7 32bit pc. Im sorry but your response doesnt answer my problem.

I have the drivers and all the other useless junk software for the 3310 for use on a win7 pc. The problem is I cant get it to work. The comment that because the printer is not current it wont work is RUBBISH. thanks but I want to know if someone can get me out of strife?

Now that I am thru biting my lip :D

I had one of those 3310 multi printers and I found that it would do all kinds of neat things back in the XP days but It would not scan over the network. For some reason the scan function requires drivers that are not network compatible. At least
that is what I found out with mine.

I now have a color 2840 and found that the same thing, scanning over the network is not supported.

I have a non-profit where I volunteer and they have color copiers/scanners that only scan to .pdf and only via email, you have to setup an email address with all the attendent settings and it works great.

So it looks like money is the key to remote scanning.

But then someone might have done it and just not told anyone else about how they did it.

I use one of these Hawking 1-Port USB 2.0 Print Server for Multifunction Printers (HMPS1U): Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories with my HP multifunction printer / scanner and it workd perfectly. I can print from or scan to any PC on my network.

Works with Windows 7 just as well as it did with XP.

Not sure if it is still available but there must be other similar devices.

Hi, I have recently removed a tp link print server that allowed remote xp pcs to print to a hp g55, which worked perfectly, but if I hook that up again it means I have to have the server software on all pcs, I have to have a powered usb hub (for both all in ones) as well as the plugpack for the server. Very messy. Thanks for the response, but what im not so simply trying to do is use the built in facility on both machines to connect to my already in place network. Should be easy, but then easy and HP dont always share the same sentence. Thanks again

Hi, thanks for the response, according to Hp the 3310, and the c6180 are supported for network printing , scanning, and card reading, over a ethernet lan, provided the "full feature software is installed on every pc. I only want to scan on 1 pc that is close to the 3310, which is where ive been trying to install the software, and i can already print to the 3310 from any pc on the network, which is all i want with the remainder of the pcs. HP want $30.00 per printer to tell me how to fix the problem, and offer no guarantee that they can. I am thinking of updating my old laserjet 4200dtn (which works great on the same network) and for the first time ill be looking at other than hp offerings. Thanks for trying
