My DVD/CDROM not working after update

Hello, After the latest update my dvd drive, which is an hl-dt-st-dvdram gt32n is not showing in windows explorer. I cannot burn anything. Windows explorer hangs repeatedly and I can't do a clean shutdown at all. I went to device manager and it told me that Windows did not start a related device driver. I tried to update the driver but the scan is still running after 2 hours. I'm running window 7 x64 home premium with 4GB of memory. The computer is an asus k52f core i3. Any help would be appreciated. Is this this e the correct forum?

In device manager, try and do a roll back to install your old driver. Unless you need to have the latest update.

The suggestions worked. I used regedit to change the drive type then rebooted. Thank y
